Thank you very much to show Interest In knowing how Kibibi church of
Christ Is doing
This young Church is about 2 year old. Most of the converts were formerly
Moslems. Edirisa Kasango is the known leader who often attends our BBS classes
in Jinja. Most of BBS students know him as a preacher with good anecdotes.
Last week on the 26th October 2002, there was a wedding of one called
Siraji with his wife Tapenesi. They were making their wedding in a Christian
way their new found faith. They had gotten married while Moslems and now they
wanted to make it known to the Christian world.
I hired a car for 30,000 Ugandan shillings and put fuel worthy 25,000
Ugandan shillings to go and officiate in this wedding. Little did I know that
these people know completely nothing about the way Christians prepare for
their weddings in this part of the world. Their organization was little
different from the way it would have been while they were in the old Moslem
ways.
The bride was taken to stay at her parents place a distance of 2 hours
driving one way. The car that went to pick up the bride went at 11:00 am only
to find the bride waiting impatiently along the way for their arrival to pick
him up. She had been chased from her parents place because of her efforts to
stop them from drinking. She spent instead that night at a denominational
local preachers place for safety and later in the morning came on the road
side to wait for the car to pick her up.
On their way to Kibibi the place of wedding, the vehicle broke and they had
to stop for repair. They made it to my office at 6:05 pm. Normally this is too
late for the wedding. I drove my hired car and followed up the other car with
the bride. On reaching there, we found that most people had grown impatient
and they were thinking of rather going back home. They re-gathered for the
wedding. Simply because I was tired, my friend preaching in the Bufula Church
of Christ Matthias Mugogo officiated, I preached and Steven Waiswa was there
to help in other things. A group of Christians from the Nawangoma Church of
Christ were there that evening singing praises to God.
We had to rash and buy the most needed things that late evening. Our cake
that night was just a small peace of bread and there was no reception at all.
But one thing that encouraged me was the happiness that Siraji was showing all
throughout the wedding ceremony. He was as if nothing unexpected was
happening. I believe God was here to wed this couples! The occasion was unique
in many things, but the candidates were the same before God.
Pray for these couples, pray for this young Church, pray for people like
Edirisa as he takes up the leadership in this young Church and pray for us all
in this time to be able to handle the required responsibility with less means
of quick transportations.
